Dwight's warm and supportive style emanates from his nine years as a licensed funeral director working with diverse populations in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Adding to this experience is the four years of crisis work, in which he volunteered, led and became a paid staff member of the Distress Center of Ottawa & Region. During his undergraduate training in Social Work, Dwight received training in emotionally focused therapy for couples under the direction of Dr. Susan Johnson at the Ottawa Couple & Family Institute.
Dwight receives supervision from a clinical psychologist in Ottawa and continues his extensive training and journey in Marriage & Family Therapy in Montreal, PQ in 2012. Dwight's skill and warm empathy help him to quickly assess and provide a treatment plan that is not only evidence based, but tailored and flexible to meet your development and growth.
Dwight continues to do research focusing on intimate relationships in both same sex and opposite sex unions, his area of clinical focus is couples therapy using attachment theory, object relations theory and common factors in marriage & family therapy for an informed approach to intervention. He is a published scholar, and is currently being supervised by Dr. Dennis Kimberly, faculty member at MUN, and specialist in clinical social work, and Dr. Leigh Karos, a clinical psychologist in Ottawa, Ontario. Dwight has studied with Dr. David Brennan, a well known scholar and researcher in body image, eating disorders, HIV and health related issues for both gay and bisexual men.
Dwight has won research awards through the Canadian Health Institute of Research, the National Health Science Student Essay Competition and through the University of Toronto - Factor Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. He is published in the Journal of Inter-professional Care and the Journal of Culture, Health and Sexuality.
Dwight teaches through the distance education program, Dalhousie University, School of Social Work at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels. He teaches introduction to Social Work and Welfare, as well as Family Interventions and Addictions in Social Work Practice. He has received clinical training in Attachment Theory from Dr. Marshall Korenblum (Chief Psychiatrist Hincks Dellcrest) and Mary Rella, MSW, and training in Emotionally Focused Therapy from Dr. Susan Johnson, here in Ottawa, Ontario, Object Relations Clinical Training, Smith College of Social Work (Boston). All are professionals in emotional and psycho-dynamic related clinical work with families, children and couples.
